What is a hostel? A hostel isn’t like a hotel in the sense that it’s geared more towards backpackers and students. It’s an inexpensive option when traveling that provides you all you might need for lodging in a self-serve, community-oriented way. We do, however, provide both dorm rooms and private rooms. How do I make a reservation? There is a booking bar on our homepage and more information on our booking page, or call our central reservations line at 1(304)-268-8981. What time is check-in? You may check-in anytime after 7 AM (0700 hours), but your bed or room will not be ready until about 2 PM (1400 hours). You may store your luggage or bags for free and hang out in our common areas until your room is ready!
What time is check-out? 11am. What is included? We provide all linen, towels, and pillows! We also have WiFi and computers for you to use. We provide a free pancake breakfast and free coffee and tea all day! Is there parking? We have parking available on a first-come first-serve basis; just make sure to reserve parking when you are making your booking by sending us a email to email@example.com. Our parking is $10/night +tax for each car. Can I check in early? You can arrive at the hostel anytime after 7am to store your luggage and use our common areas, but the room might not be ready until 2pm. Depending on the availability the night before and when everyone checks out that day, you might be able to get into the room before 2pm–just check at the front desk on the day of your reservation. Do you have breakfast? Yes, we have free breakfast from 7:30 AM to 11 AM. Coffee and tea are available all day. Plus, keep an eye out for our spontaneous community dinners!
What time does the airport shuttle run? When we refer to our “FREE SHUTTLE” from the airport, we are actually referring to taking the 24-hour Blue Line train and we refund your train ticket (which is actually faster and cheaper than taking the highway)! How long does it take to get to the hostel from O’Hare? It’s about a 40 minute train ride. Compared to most other places in Chicago, we are very close to the airport and easy to get to! I am an American, can I stay at your hostel? Americans may stay at our hostel as long as they are not living locally in Chicago. If you would like to stay in our dorms you must have foreign passport or/and a student ID and travel itinerary. How far are you from downtown? Just hop on the Blue Line train across the street and you’re there in 10 minutes! Do I need to bring a sleeping bag or towel? No. We provide clean linens and towels free of charge and actually discourage our guests from bringing their own sleeping bags due to sanitary reasons. Are there age restrictions? No, but everyone under 18 needs an adult with them. Can I use internet there? Of course! We have free wifi everywhere in our hostel, and also free computers to use (plus free printing under 10 pages!).
Is drinking allowed? Yes, you may drink (responsibly) anywhere in our hostel. We love it when people are hanging out and being social in our common areas and will even encourage a game of beer pong! Is smoking allowed? You may smoke upstairs on our roof deck only or outside on the sidewalk, no smoking anywhere inside. Is there laundry? Yes, we have coin-operated laundry for guests in our hostel and laundry soap for $1. Is the neighborhood safe? Wicker Park is one of the safest neighborhoods in the city, and people are always out and about. It’s very conveniently located close to downtown, but we do have almost anything you might need within a couple block radius—grocery stores, liquor stores, all sorts of shopping, and one of the biggest convenience stores in the area is right next door!
Can I send a package to the hostel? Yep, please send it to your name to IHSP Chicago Hostel, 2nd Floor 1616 North Damen Chicago, IL 60647 USA. We will hold any packages we get for you at the front desk.
Does your hostel have a curfew? No, you can scan your key anytime at our front doors. We do have quiet hours, though, from midnight-7am on weekdays and 1am-7am on weekends. Can I pay in cash? Yes! We do require a 10% booking deposit with a valid card that is then subtracted from your total and upon arrival and you can either pay by credit card or if you pay the remainder due by cash, you receive a 2% discount! How do I cancel my reservation and is there a fee? Please email us your name and the dates you would like to cancel at firstname.lastname@example.org. There is not a cancellation fee unless you cancel within 48 hours of your reservation. If we don’t have at least 48-hour notice of cancellation, we have to charge you for the first night. Large groups or long-term guests have stricter cancellation policies. Please contact us for details. How can I change my reservation? Please email us your name, the website you booked with, and your reservation number to email@example.com. Please limit the amount of changes you make, however, since we are only human and not a machine!
